MY STORY
I approach yoga and fitness with a curious and playful attitude. While fun, my classes are physically demanding yet mindful. Students can expect to be greeted with a smile, a little bit of yoga philosophy, some flowing sequences, and a whole lot of strength, flexibility, and balance-improving movements. Because of my dance background, inquisitive mind, and training in yoga, I understand the human body and injury prevention, and am precise about alignment. This passion for health and well-being in a positive and inspiring atmosphere infuses every class I teach, regardless of the discipline. In any class, I love challenging students and connecting with them to encourage them to move beyond their perceived limitations.
Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, I danced ballet and jazz, and loved Pilates, running, and trying any fitness program that came across my path. I have been practicing yoga since I was 15, but it took a serious heartbreak for me to commit to my mat and fall in love with yoga. Throughout this time, I have had the pleasure of being exposed to amazing teachers from around the world in a variety of styles. In my practice and teaching, I incorporate concepts from my experiences with Vinyasa, Anusara, Ashtanga, Yin, Bikram, and Power Yoga. I received my 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification, have done hundreds of additional hours of training including Applied Psychology for Yoga Teachers with Livia Cohen-Shapiro and am also a certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise, I am certified in Aerial through AIR, Barre Fly through Rock It Workouts, Barre through Studio 64 (originally Pop Physique), and in Pilates Plus.
After teaching for nearly a decade, I decided to do my Personal Training Certification and the following year get certified as a Fitness Nutrition Specialist, both through The American Council on Exercise or ACE. I have a number of private clients from all over the country and I now teach group fitness at Equinox Gyms.
My greatest influences include Travis Eliot and Rudy Mettia from Santa Monica Power Yoga, the noteworthy Shiva Rea, as well as Michelle Anderson and Livia Cohen-Shapiro. I am currently teaching at Red Diamond Yoga in Palms, Equinox, and Black Dog Yoga in Studio City.
When I'm not practicing or teaching, I love music and sing with a band called The Sound of Ghosts, I love going to the theatre, adventures, vegan food, traveling, reading, and hanging with my dogs Cash, June, and Daphne. I am passionate about animal rights, the environment, and empowering women and am always interested in events that help raise awareness about those important issues.
