ARTIST RETREAT IN TOPANGA

A THREE-DAY WEEKEND TO TAP INTO YOUR CREATIVITY & FIND INSPIRATION

JANUARY 24-26, 2020

Every person is a creator, a dreamer, an artist, but it can be challenging to set aside time to do our art. This retreat is dedicated to creating time and space in order to get creative. We will have daily yoga and meditation, dharma talks, healthy meals prepared by an in-house chef, and plenty of creative time. You can sing, dance, draw, paint, journal, make a vision board, write a poem, work on a novel, play music, write music, collaborate with other artists, read a book, knit, quilt, embroider, cross stitch, bead, sculpt, animate, create a website, try new recipes out, take photos, shoot a movie, work on a monologue, write a comedy sketch, invent, lay the groundwork for a bigger project, or try something you've never tried before! Do your art, whatever it is!

This is in no way about how good you are or what you produce, this retreat will be specifically designed for you to make space for your creative self to come forward without a need for measurable results, judgements, and all of the barriers we make for ourselves when we feel vulnerable as an artist. Anyone from professional artists to first time attempts at an art form are welcome and encouraged.

While we spend three days in magical Topanga Canyon, we will have time to take care of our bodies, minds, and hearts to not only tap into our creativity over one weekend, but explore how to make sure that our creative pursuits have a place in our daily lives. We will discuss yoga philosophy and explore the psychology of why we find blocks in our creativity or simply don't make time for the things we are passionate about.

Please come with an idea of what you want to play with and the materials you would need to do that project. I will bring some materials for everyone and know that you can explore any number of different projects during this time and follow your creativity wherever it takes you.

get to know me

I approach yoga, with a curious mind and playful attitude. While fun and mindful, my classes are physically demanding. Students can expect to be greeted with a smile, a bit of yoga philosophy, some breath work, and a whole lot of strength-building flow. I am passionate about encouraging students through advances in their physical practice, managing stress, and moving beyond perceived limitations.

I have been creating for as long as I can remember. I am currently in a band called The Sound of Ghosts, I write music, have performed in regional musical theatre as well as off-Broadway and a number of world premiers of new musicals, I worked as an actor for a number of years, and have explored a variety of different visual arts mediums, from watercolor to graphic design. I love the creative process, collaboration, and holding space for artists to create incredible work!

I trained with Rudy Mettia and Travis Eliot from Santa Monica Power Yoga, have been greatly influenced by Michelle Anderson, Shiva Rea, and Livia Cohen Shapiro, and have been practicing yoga for 20 years. When I'm not teaching, I is passionate about creating, eating delicious vegan food, my pups Cash and June, and adventuring the world.
